How to Receive Healing
Mark 5: 25-34: A determined woman receives healing
25 Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years, 26 and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. 28 For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.” But His disciples said to Him, “You see the multitude thronging You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’”
32 And He looked around to see her who had done this thing. 33 But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. 34 And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction
The primary way believers should receive healing is through their own faith and confidence in who Jesus is and His atoning work on the cross. Too many believers want to be healed through the prayers of others (the TV evangelist, or the pastor, or the prayer circle), or through gifts of the Spirit or through signs and wonders, or even a prophetic word. Jesus got cross with people who demanded signs (John 4: 48), and praised others who received healing through faith (the Centurion, Matthew 8:10, the Samaritan leper, Luke 17:18-19, the blind man, Matthew 9:27-30).
In the above passage, this determined and brave lady gives us several keys to appropriate and receive our healing. She ‘wrote her own ticket with God’. (Kenneth Hagin, ‘ How to write your own ticket with God’. Let us learn from her.
- She heard the word and believed. There must have been a lot of talk about Jesus and what He was doing in the Galilee. There would have been plenty of excited people talking about their healings. Families and friends would be describing the things Jesus had done. But it is likely this woman would have also heard negative comments, gossip, criticism ridicule, disbelief and even lies about Jesus the Healer.
However, by listening and ‘hearing’ the Word, she became utterly convinced that Jesus was able to and willing to heal her. She chose to ‘hear’ the positive truth about Jesus. She believed He was the Healer and if she could get to Him and touch Him, she would be healed. She made the choice to believe that He was The Healer and was the answer to her problem. She must have filtered out the negative comments and ‘listened’ to the overwhelming evidence that Jesus heals! She focussed on the good reports and the positive. She ‘heard’ the truth and did not listen to anything else.
Application:
We must ‘hear’ the Word about healing. If we are not utterly convinced that it is God’s will for us to be healthy and that healing has already been given to us in the Atonement, we must saturate ourselves with the Word on healing. Read the accounts in both Old and New Testaments about healing, study Jesus study the Word, listen to teachings of the finest preachers (see resource list below). As you do this, you will ‘hear’. A supernatural thing will begin to happen as the Word diffuses throughout your being.
Jesus told us to ‘take heed about what we hear’. (Mat 4:24). Your faith matches what you hear. There may be people around you telling you the opposite of what the Word says. They may mean well but their words are negative. You cannot agree with them. You cannot listen to them. Do not afford to listen to anyone who speaks against the Word. Jesus put people like that out of the room. He did not listen to them or allow them to speak into the situation. It’s OK for you not to listen to them. You need to choose to listen to God’s word and not entertain any thought contrary to the word. If you are fighting for your life, you cannot listen to any negative or contrary words.
- Hear the Word
- Don’t listen to negative reports
- Make the choice to believe
2. The woman in this passage was single minded about her situation and its solution. She was absolutely determined to get her healing. There were several obstacles in her way that could have prevented her from getting to Jesus and she could have easily stayed at home. Firstly, she must have been physically weak after years of illness (12 years) and ‘had suffered many things from physicians’. How many of you have suffered from surgery and medications and invasive tests and depressing words from medical personnel? Doctors could not help this woman. She had exhausted her resources in pursuit of her healing. It would have taken a physical effort for her to go and fight through the crowd but she overcame physical symptoms and went after Jesus.
She would most probably have been discouraged and depressed after years of sickness, and ‘getting worse’ (Mark 5:25). She may have had a ‘sick and getting worse’ image in her mind. She would have had to turn her back on this when she went to find Jesus. This way of thinking could have easily stopped her but she pressed through depression and discouragement to seek The Healer.
Although the passage doesn’t tell us so, she may have been on her own. She was not an influential or important person like Jairus, and no one was her advocate. This may have been because under Jewish law, she was considered unclean (Leviticus 15:19, 25-27). She was supposed to be ‘separated’ because of the issue of blood. So she was in that crowd illegally. But even this didn’t put her off. This lady initiated her own healing by going after Jesus herself and was determined to receive.
Application: It’s simple.
Be determined and do not let any obstacles prevent you from appropriating healing
3. She spoke the word aloud: vs 28, For she said. The woman spoke aloud and said ‘If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be made whole.’ She didn’t say Jesus might heal me, or I wonder if I deserve healing or I hope He heals me. Her words lined up with the will of God and with His Word. She said, ‘I will be made whole’. He sent his word, and healed me, Ps 107: 20.
-
- Speak aloud
- Speak ONLY in alignment with the Word
- Be meticulous in what you say
- Don’t speak any negative words
-
Application: When we have heard the word, and made a choice to believe it, we need to speak it aloud. We need to find words that line up with the scriptures, for example, if you are standing on the scripture, I shall live and not die, Psalm 118:17, then speak out those words all through the day.’ I shall live and not die. I shall live and not die. I shall live and not die to declare the works of the Lord.’ When the doctor’s report is bad news, you choose to believe and say, ‘ I shall live and not die’. Your words will create your future. You can choose life or death through your words. (Prov 18:21)
You must be meticulous with the words you say aloud, even in jest. For example, there is a popular cliché, ‘I’m dying to meet him..’ , don’t even say that. When negative thoughts come into your mind, DON’T speak them out. Speak only what the Word says.
- Speak aloud
- Speak ONLY in alignment with the Word
- Be meticulous in what you say
- Don’t speak any negative words 5. She acted. The woman followed up what she believed, with her actions. She went out and looked for Jesus and touched His hem, even though she wasn’t supposed to mingle in the crowd.Application: What actions do you need to take to demonstrate your belief?
- Your actions must demonstrate your faith6. She received the healing. As soon as she touched the hem of Jesus, her blood flow stopped and she was healed. Note how quickly it happened. It was immediate. Jesus didn’t know she was coming, or expect her. SHE drew the healing out of Him. SHE decided to receive. This was a straight forward choice that she made, and the healing followed. Note too, that in this case she ‘was made whole’, her healing was not partial or over time. Her faith in what Jesus could do and who He was produced a new faith image of her being healed and whole. She had decided the moment of transaction would be when she touched Him, and this is exactly what happened. She accessed grace and power through Jesus Christ. This lady took responsibility for her healing. She ‘ wrote her own ticket’. Application: The primary way for believers to receive healing is through our own faith and confidence in who Jesus. Jesus provided healing for us in the Atonement. (John 19:30, Romans 5:11). Are you still dependent on others to pray for you? Do you think the only one who can release healing to you is your pastor, or a five- fold minister? Do you depend on the gifts of the Spirit for healing and hope for words of knowledge or gifts of healing? Or do you wait to receive a prophetic word that today you are the one to receive. There is nothing wrong with these methods of healing, they are all legitimate and all ways that God uses. BUT He wants us to grow up and be Sons, who can quickly appropriate our own healing and then have faith for others. This is the Day of the Saints (Bishop Bill Hamon) and we are called to be active and effective soldiers in this Jesus army.
- Where do you stand? Have you learnt to eat the healing bread of Jesus Christ off the Master’s Table (Matthew 15:26-27, 1 Corinthians 11:23-24, Galatians 3:26-29) or are you waiting for someone else to drop some for you?
- Note Jesus words to her: He didn’t say, Woman the gifts of the spirit have made you whole, or, ‘My miracle working power has made you whole’. He said, ‘Your faith has made you whole.’
- Grow up: Appropriate and healing for ourselves5. She knew she was healed. Vs 33: ‘ But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her’ . She knew she was healed. . Whether you feel it or not, you must know it, so you can stand and not waver (point 7)6. She testified to what had happened. Rev 12: 11. They overcame by the blood of the lamb and the word of their testimony. By telling what had happened, she was again agreeing with the Word and aligning with the will of God. There is a very powerful spiritual thing that happens when you tell what happens.
- Testify to your healing7. Hold fast to your confession. Hebrews 11:23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering. The passage tells us that the woman was healed and went on her way. We would like to assume she kept her healing as it says she was made whole. Do not entertain any thought contrary to the word. – to establish one’s position publicly by conspicuously holding one’s ground, i.e. refusing to be moved-oppose fully or to forcefully declare one’s personal conviction, So we are to anti- histamine the devil with our full force and might in a stubborn and unwavering effort to hold our ground. They may be physical symptoms, pain or discomfort. They may come from the media: ‘if you have any of these symptoms you have cancer..’In all these cases, we must resist, not be moved, declare our conviction. We must proclaim out loud what the Word says and stand forcefully against the attack. We must not allow our imagination to build the worst case scenario. We need to force our mind to remain focussed on the Word. By doing this, we can ‘write your own ticket’ and appropriate healing. The scripture in James 4 tells us the outcome if we can do this, which is that the devil will flee! Praise God for the deliverance He has made available for us.
- The may be mental or emotional onslaughts in the form of our thoughts.
- They may be verbal comments from others, especially those close to us, or medical reports.
- The attacks we need to stand against may come in different forms.
- – to keep one’s possession; ardently withstand, without giving up or letting go
- – a military term in classical Greek used by Thucydides, meaning to strongly resist an opponent or take a firm stand against
- Strongs 436: anthístēmi : from 473:antí, opposite, against and 2476: hístēmi: ‘to stand’ or properly take a complete stand against
- A word study on ‘resist’, gives us an insight as to how to do this.
- James 4:7: tells us to submit to God, resist the devil and he will flee. Submitting yourself to God means to align and agree with His word. You may not understand everything about the situation or there may be some lingering symptoms; there may be opposing reports and negative words but to submit to God, you need to keep agreeing with Him and agreeing with His Word. You choose to believe what He said IS the truth.
- However, this last stage is where many fall. This part involves HOLDING FAST, which means to stand and be unwavering. Once you have decided to believe and receive there will be an attack and an attempt from the enemy to persuade you that you have not been healed. You CANNOT waver. You must stand firm. You must be stubborn.
- Submit to God, by agreeing with His Word and speaking it aloud
- Resist the attacks stubbornly and with full force
- The devil will fleeKenneth HaginThings That belong to us https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=enneth+hagin+things+that+belong+to+ushttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-u7smoJiKxkhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcXb2dA-A&list=PLS_yAee9vpuEZSBIiZDuvlFjk6zjz8k7w

Report back on Prayer Strike in Europe
Report Back: European Prayer Assignment July 2016 Portugal
Team: John and Heather Alcock, Frank and Suzanne Ferret
Intention
Sound the alarm
Stake the territory
Secure perimeter points
Overview
Faro Airport
Our team arrived in Faro on Monday afternoon and our first stop was the outskirts of Faro airport, where we staked the ground as a European perimeter and Gateway. We decreed an open gate for spreading the Gospel and for openness across Portugal for a return to true spirituality and a closure to dead religion. We also decreed the release of God’s purposes for the nation. Prophetically we saw Fivefold ministers ‘flying’ into Portugal to help in this next season as well as a return of the nation to its prophetic destiny as a missionary, sending nation.
Faro Airport
On Tuesday morning, we drove from Lagos up to Foia, the highest point (900 m) on the Monchique mountains on the Algarve, and took our stand on a rocky spot overlooking the country. It was very misty, with swathes of cloud and mist around us reminding us of the winds of the Holy Spirit and the Presence of the Lord on Mt Sinai. A summary of our prayers and declarations is below, but the overwhelming sense was God’s weight on shifting governments and restoration of His purposes. Of all the decrees, the ones about alignment seemed most powerful, although all of them were released with great faith.
Foia, Monchique, Highest place on Algarve Team Portugal preparing for united prayer strike
In the afternoon we drove back to Lagos via a little beach town and while enjoying the sun and sea, spoke to one of the sidewalk craftsmen selling his jewellery. When invited to accept Jesus as King and Son of God, he enthusiastically said he wanted to do that, and Heather led him in a short prayer. We took this as a first fruit of the salvations and revival that are coming to Portugal. It was interesting that he was an informal entrepreneur.
John and I left Lagos for Lisbon, on Thursday. On Friday we were joined by a local pastor and his wife, who drove us to some strategic spots in the city. These included the Belem tower, which was constructed as both a ceremonial and defensive gateway to Lisbon in 1514. This tower is at the mouth of the River Tagus, which we sensed is a strategic feature in Portugal and we ‘saw’ the revival and release of God’s purposes flowing up through the country and into Spain. This spot was also adjacent to the port and so we staked the ground as another European perimeter. Our third stop was in front of the famous Discovery monument, where we made further decrees for Portugal’s revival of innovation, discovery and entrepreneurship. We had another interesting encounter with an informal entrepreneur and gave him a prophetic word.
Throughout the week, we felt saturated with the Presence and purpose of God, and surrounded by angels.
In front of Belem Tower and Tagus River mouth Signs and wonders claimed for Portugal
More prophetic acts: shooting the arrows of the Words of the Lord
On Sunday evening, Portugal won the Football Wold Cup and we couldn’t help making a link between this and the prayer strike. Interesting as well that Andy Murray and Lewis Hamilton also had wins for Great Britain.
Perspectives and Impressions
We were aware that we were not in a vacuum, and were building on the foundations of prayers and prophetic activities of believers who have gone before us. We would like to include and honour them. We may not know them all, but we know of the group from Oasis church in Lagos that have prayed and decreed God’s purposes for Algarve and Portugal for many years. In previous years, they have visited and prayed at Sagres, St Vincent, Monchique, Lagos.
We have a sense that a massive shift and breakthrough has taken place. We now need to occupy and maintain that space with BREAKOUT. In military strategy the breakout protects the breakthrough
Strong sense of changing of the guard and we will see the change soon.
Unity was key. It was a very powerful experience to hear the other prayers and declarations being decreed as well as to see the team praying and singing and agreeing in the War Room in Burton. This produced a massive sense of synergy, unity, achievement and victory. How wonderful to be a part of such a magnificent team.
Trained teams was also a key. In our experience from previous missions, victory has been aborted or postponed because of immaturity, lack of discipline or vague goals.
Leadership and organisation: the prayer strike was a consequence of God given vision, followed by true apostolic leadership, planning and clear strategic and tactical thinking.
Focus: Actions were based on clear objectives
First fruits: we were witness to immediate first fruits. In addition to the two individuals we met the result of the connections in Lisbon was more than we ever expected and will open doors into the country for further prophetic and apostolic work.
We were very aware of excellent leadership, preparation and organisation, and very clear vision.
Thanks
This was a very impressive undertaking and we were so delighted and grateful to be a part of it. Every part of the vision- casting, leadership, planning and organisation was excellent. Thank you, thank you to Jenny and Steve and Maria for outstanding leadership. Thank you to every member of the praying team, we felt so strongly connected and part of the Bride Army. Thank you to the masses of others who supported us in prayers, encouragement and love. We look forward now to the next glorious ‘battle’.
Next Steps
The follow up to BREAKTHROUGH is very important. It’s the BREAKOUT: to occupy and possess and build.
Next steps:
Continue to bombard the heavens with effective strategic and apostolic prayer
Immediately, identify strategic people in nations and bring them to KAN, with objective of establishing similar centres in nations. This is to demonstrate what is being done and to ‘plug them in’ (Alignment) If necessary support with finance. Things are better ‘caught than taught’.
Drive the wedge deeper through the breach (Breakout). Possibly, in the beginning a strategy is to take trained prayer teams in or preferably take in trainers to equip the local people to do the job. ( Prayer school, Psalmody School, Prophetic school, Healing school)
–establish centres or groups that will take responsibility for cities, regions and nations
– establish ‘Touchpoints’ in nations
– Immediately, identify strategic people in nations and bring them to KAN, with objective of
establishing similar centres in nations.
